UK to USA

Earlier this year I moved to the US with my family and started a two year (or 100 weeks as I prefer to think of it) ‘leave of absence’ from the House of Lords. I’ve been sitting on the red benches in the UK Parliament for twelve years and before I left I was able to reflect on my time in a diary piece for The House Magazine. We’re now six weeks into our new life and settling in well here in California. The lush Spring has helped and we’ve received a warm welcome from our new community.

I’m both missing, and not missing, being a small part of the British political system but enjoying the change in perspective you get from this particular Pacific coast vantage point.

In terms of work I’m carrying on with international projects on coal repowering with Quantified Carbon and green house gas measurements and carbon markets, with UK based ratings agency Sylvera. I’ve also starting working with Potential Energy on advertising campaigns that can move the needle on climate action. I’m continuing with various board roles including Jupiter Green, WWF-UK, Ember, New Automotive and the Climate Subak - a not for profit community and accelerator.

So life is busy but, in the words of Ferris Bueller, I’m also trying to make time to stop and look around once in a while. Otherwise I might miss it.
